ROBERT EDWARDS:
WHAT A PERFORMANCE
God Almighty.
I heard a lot of rumours about the man, you know. Some good, some bad. So
really, I didnt know what to expect.
I met somebody absolutely outstanding.
His passion for the game, for the event, his will to promote the country
that is welcoming him, in this case Kuwait, is obvious, as obvious as his
love and understanding for this magic place that is Kuwait City
Robert Edwards has been organising tournaments for 20 years now, and so
far, he is counting 180. He has also promoted great champions like Ahmed
Barada, Peter Marshall, Chris Roberts, Cassie Jackman, etc. For three
years now, he has had an arrangement with the PSA that stipulates I cant
promote any player in particular, but Im helping all of them.
Make sense, doesnt it? |

 |

Robert likes to promote squash by organising big show type events, which
in his view is the way forward for the sport. He is the connection between
the PSA and the event promoters.
"They entrust their tournament to me, says Robert, and Im there to
guide them within the PSA rules.
My dream would be to eventually retire and leave behind me a three million
dollar Tour. I would also like to see the players act like and be treated
like the best professional athletes in the world.
In the past 20 years, I have brought on for PSA, in one way or another, 4
million dollars worth of event. |

Now we are talking, Robert, arent we. And what annoys him most?
I hate amateurism within the professional world
Hear hear
And what was the best squash tournament he ever witnessed? The three
British Opens that took place in Wales.
And a wish?
I would like the British Open to be once again promoted as THE
tournament, and to see Australia and France give their players the
tournament they deserve
Like I said, a man to my heart
